Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have a CV?
Not necessarily, it really depends upon the job you are seeking. You will however need to complete one of our application forms to give us enough information to help you get the right job and provide our client with suitable staff.
In some positions it is important to be able to summarise all of your experience, qualifications and personal details in one single document, as this is what we use when we approach our clients with potential candidates. If you need help writing your CV, click here to visit our jobseekers page and read our simple guide to creating the perfect CV.
How do I register with you?
One option is to visit our Jobseeker Registration page and enter your details there. One of our consultants will then contact you to arrange an initial interview. Alternatively, just give one of our offices a call to set up an interview or simply call in to see us.
What should I bring to my initial interview?
We would like a copy of your CV, if you have one. Failing that, we can provide you with an Application Form to complete. Click here to download (you will need adobe reader - download here)
Copies of references from previous employers are very useful and we are required to validate any qualifications you have by seeing and copying certificates of attainment, HGV or Fork Lift driving licences etc.
Current legislation also requires that we see proof of your identity and proof of your eligibility to work in the UK . Please see below:
Proof of identity:
This can be satisfied by producing your passport, a National Identity Card, driving licence, birth certificate or a utility bill addressed to you at your current address.
Proof of Eligibility to work in the UK :
The Asylum and Immigration Act lists a large number of documents that may be accepted by ourselves and these vary according to your current status and nation of origin. These documents include a suitably endorsed passport, national identity card, visas or Home Office letters, National Insurance Card or a payslip from a previous employer, a full Birth Certificate, a Workers Registration Certificate etc etc. Basically, you should bring any documentation in your possession relating to your eligibility to reside and work in the UK and our staff will be glad to assist you.
What qualifications do I need to have?
We place candidates in a wide range of roles which require varying degrees of experience. While substantial experience and qualifications are essential for some roles, not all positions require this level of expertise. What's more important for many employers is that their candidates are reliable, polite and conscientious.
When you register we may ask you to take a series of tests which will evaluate your ability for some jobs.
What kind of jobs will you put me forward for?
Birks Bailie Ltd place candidates in a variety of commercial, technical, industrial and healthcare roles. Before we begin helping you to find a job, we will discuss with you about what kind of positions you're interested in and what type of companies you'd like to work for.
We also assume that once you have registered you are willing for us to submit your details to clients we feel may be suitable. Should you wish that we do not submit your details to any particular clients please let us know.

No! Birks Bailie Ltd handle temporary, contract and permanent assignments and which kind of position we put you forward for will be up to you. How long will it take me to get placed?
This varies from candidate to candidate and depends on your individual circumstances and the kind of job you're looking for. The important thing to remember is that we will only put you forward for jobs we think will suit you at companies where we think you'll enjoy working. |
